What Is The Civil Air Patrol?
A Candid Discussion With NYT Best-Selling Author Dale Brown (Video)
The pilot pushed the single-engine Cessna Skylane's engine, using all 230 horsepower. Hitting the mark two hours later, one of the Cessna crewmembers scans below at the devastation left in the deadly storm's path. The camera operator aims down and shoots as the Cessna slows and drops elevation. The Cessna crew is the first on the scene and the first with the critical information the emergency command team needs. The crew takes note of blocked passageways and damaged roads as they circle the area. Then, with time of the essence, the crew relays the ground situation back to the communications room hundreds of miles away.
Coast Guard? No. National Guard? No. Air Force? No. The crew belongs to the Civil Air Patrol (CAP).
CAP, established in 1941, is an official auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force, with over 56,000 volunteer members. Their mission varies from the air to land, from search and rescue to reconnaissance.
To find out more, we talked to a current CAP officer. CAP Lieutenant Colonel (LTC) Dale Brown talked to The Protectors® Podcast this past week and explained what CAP does and how to get involved. Dale is a U.S. Air Force veteran and a current CAP officer.
Dale's conversation provided an incredible perspective on CAP; listen in below.

Civil Air Patrol Is Not Just Flying
How To Get Involved
CAP & 9/11:
“The terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, ushered CAP into a new era of homeland defense. The following day, a CAP Cessna 172, the only nonmilitary aircraft allowed in the nation’s airspace, provided emergency management officials the first high-resolution images of the World Trade Center site. Nationwide, CAP volunteers transported blood and medical supplies, provided communication and transportation support and assisted state and federal officials.” - CAP Site.
Dale is not only a CAP Officer, but also a New Yok Time’s Best-Selling Author. Dale’s newest release WEAPONS OF OPPORTUNITY is out now.

When a former senior CIA executive goes dark, Flynn and his team—including the daring Laura Van Horn—are ready to step in. What begins as a quiet check on his home turns into a firefight against a familiar enemy who is more dangerous than ever.
